Actor, musician and film-maker Idris Elba has put a Jaguar XE through 750 miles of hard winter driving, from London to Berlin.
Today, February 23rd, Jaguar released the final film in a series covering Idris’ journey across Western Europe in a Jaguar XE that was equipped with a 2.0 litre i4 163PS diesel engine.
On the journey, the car faced harsh winter conditions and was equipped with winter tyres so that it could perform well in the snow, cold and ice. In spite of this, Idris was still able to show off the cars technological and performance credentials as he achieved efficiency of 65 mpg.
Among the things he did while on his journey was stop off at the Formula One race circuit in Spa, Belgium. There he got to meet the racing hero Martin Brundle and they took to the track in a Jaguar XE S with a 3.0 litre 340 PS petrol engine.
Speaking about his adventure in the Jaguar XE, Idris said: “I had a great time driving the Jaguar XE in some pretty bad weather conditions – the highlight for me was hammering it round Spa with the legendary Martin Brundle.
“The car was a real head turner and I made sure I pushed it hard all the way to Berlin – so the most surprising thing was the efficiency, averaging 65 mpg. I also loved the in-car tech as I’m a big fan of gadgets, and the XE was fully loaded in that respect too – I even planned my DJ set list as I drove.”
He said that he has been a fan of Jaguar XE for a long time and that he was particularly interested in its sporting heritage. Making the film with Jaguar really appealed to Idris, he said, because it let him push what he does and explore different parts of his expertise.
At the end of the drive, Idris arrived at the Berlin launch of the Jaguar XE where he delivered the car on stage and later did a DJ set for the attendees.
