The 27th of January marks a special day on our calendars. No, not National Chocolate Cake Day but the birthday of one of the most avid vehicle collectors; Nick Mason.
Originally of Pink Floyd fame, Mason has developed his love of motorsport and collecting cars into a full blown hobby, which has seen him participate in motorsports as a competitor rather than a spectator!
Nick owns a variety of classic cars which he also races, through his company “10 Tenths”, including competing in the Le Mans 24 Hour from 1979-1980 and 1982-1984. Nick has one of the biggest car collections of all time and with this in mind, he has been rated “5th Largest Celebrity Car Collector”. His collection consists of:
- McLaren F1 GTR 1995 (Test Car).
- Bugatti T35 1927 (Runs on alcohol).
- Maserati 250F 1957 (Gran Prix Racer).
- Ferrari Gran Prix 312 T3.
- 1930’s Aston Martin.
- Ferrari F40.
- Ford GT40.
- Alfa Romeo GT1934.
- Ferrari Enzo2005.
- Porsche 962 Le Mans Edition.
- Piper Super Cub, (The last one!).
- Aston Martin LM18.
- Maserati Tipo T61
- Frazer Nash Le Mans replica
- Bill Masons’ Bentley Racer.
It’s hard enough buying a present for the normal budding enthusiast, but what do you buy someone who’s turning 70 and owns one of the most expensive car collections in the world? A car cleaning set? He probably has some one that does that for him. A car cover? Unless you plan on going to a wholesaler and they’re of the highest quality – don’t bother!
Happy Birthday Nick!
