Father’s Day is fast approaching and no doubt many people still have yet to find the perfect gift for their Dad. However, if your father is a bit of a car fanatic then this weekend sees a custom and hot rod event that could be great for him.

Celebrate Father's Day 2014

Hundreds of colourful custom cars and motorcycles will be on show at the National Motor Museum and visitors will also get to enjoy live music and entertainment throughout the day.

Not only that but anyone who already owns a hot rod, custom car, classic American car or a motorcycle is encouraged to bring theirs down to the event to show it off to the crowds.

In terms of what there is to see, the event promises the chance to view a Ratcatcher Resurrection slingshot dragster and the National Motor Museum’s very own 1961 Allard Chrysler dragster. Viewers will not only get to admire these but also see them in action as they will be firing up twice during the day.

It is the second year in a row when the Allard, Europe’s first dragster, will make an appearance at the event. The Allard was the subject of a five-year long restoration project that was undertaken by the Allard Chrysler Action Group (ACAG). To celebrate the completion of their work, ACAG gave the car to the event at last year’s festival.

Among the live acts that will be performing for the crowds will be Rockabilly band Ace Trio, Mariachi band will serenade random visitors throughout the day and vocal duet The Diamonds will be appearing at a number of pop up locations.

One of the things that characterises custom cars is the artwork that they are decorated with. Indeed, some of the art that is very much part of the custom scene will be on display at the event. There will also be a chance for you and your dad to let out your inner child as you enjoy rides on free fairground dodgems. If you fancy a bit of shopping as well then you can browse clothes, Americana memorabilia, merchandise and accessories from trade sellers.

The Beaulieu event is hosted in association with the leading custom, American and hot rod club of the south coast; Victory Wheelers. This club will be taking a big part in the awards ceremony that will be going on, as it will present a ‘Big Al’ award to one lucky attendee.

As part of the awards, visitors and judges alike will get the chance to reward some of the people who bring in the finest custom cars, hot rods and classic American cars and motorcycles.

The People’s Choice Award, which is sponsored by Willydog Hotdogs, will allow visitors to vote for the car on show that they think is the best, with the winner getting a trophy at the afternoon prize ceremony. Additionally, entrants will be judged in four other categories; these are Best Bike, Best Hot Rod, Best American and Best Custom.

Tickets are available until 17:00 GMT on June 14th for both visitors and participants in the event.
