Fastest production Jaguar to be built

The fastest and most powerful production car to ever come from Jaguar is set to be built and is due to make its debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Jaguar has confirmed that it will build the F-Type Project 7, an ideal move to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Jaguar D-Type racecar that inspired its design.

The F-Type Project 7 will be hand built by the Special Operations team at Jaguar Land Rover on an exclusive run of 250 vehicles.

Managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations John Edwards said: “[F-Type Project 7] is the most powerful production Jaguar ever built, and pays homage to Jaguar’s seven outright Le Mans victories with distinctive design cues inspired by the Jaguar D-type which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.”

The car follows the ideas behind the Project 7, which was unveiled for the first time in 2013 and was designed with the intention of commemorating the seven wins that Jaguar has enjoyed at Le Mans and giving a nod to the fairing that makes the D-Type stand out. Yet the F-Type Project 7 has been tweaked so that the two-seater is legal to use on the road.

To make sure it can reach high speeds and quickly, the car utilises a set of bespoke carbon-fibre aerodynamic aids as well as a unique suspension tune mean.

Powering the vehicle is a 5.0 litre supercharged V8 petrol engine which can provide 575PS and 680Nm of torque. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds.

What’s more, the car comes with CCM brakes, torque vectoring by braking and racing-style seats fitted as standard.

The first deliveries to customers of the F-Type Project 7 are set to commence around the middle of 2015. But until then, petrolheads can expect to see it when it will be making its debut at Goodwood on June 26th.
