There was a wide array of Formula One-related (F1) spectacles, classic cars and other track events at the 73rd members’ meeting at Goodwood this weekend (ending March 22nd).

Goodwood-BundleA number of cars from McLaren took to the track, including 1970s high-airbox F1 cars, McLaren F1 GTRs and Group C Le Mans monsters. Porsche fans got to see an all Porsche race featuring classic 911s, as well as Freddie Hunt having a run about the track in his father’s Hesketh grand prix car. What’s more, for the first time in 25 years, a modern grand prix took to the Goodwood Motor Circuit; the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W04.

Members meetings at Goodwood have become a place where enthusiasts are able to view motoring power on the classic motor circuit. This year, more than 400 classic vehicles raced around the track.

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 W04 is the same one that was driven by current world champion Lewis Hamilton back in 2013. On this occasion, it was FIA World Endurance Champion Anthony Davidson that got behind the wheel of the car to take it around the track as part of a ‘handicap’ race with two other Mercedes. Handicap racing was a major feature of Members’ meetings during the early days.

Among the cars that took part in the all-Porsche race, titled the John Aldington Trophy, was the 911 that Vic Elford borrowed when he went on to win the first ever rallycross event in the world in 1967. Le Mans winner Richard Attwood also took part. However, it was former British Touring Car champion Andrew Jordan who won overall.

The largest collection of McLaren F1 GTRs was assembled on the motor circuit. Derek Bell was among the drivers on the track as he got behind the wheel of his yellow Harrods-sponsored car that he raced at Le Mans in 1995. Other famous drivers included Kenny Brack and Steve Soper.
