IT’S OFFICIAL. Formula One Racer, Le mans 24H winner and American Le Mans Series double champion David Brabham is the latest driver to be confirmed for this weekend’s Grove & Dean Motorsport Insurance Radical SR3 Challenge, with his son Sam Brabham alongside him!
The exhilarating seven-round Grove & Dean Motorsport Insurance Radical SR3 Challenge visits the UK’s finest circuits as drivers in identical machinery battle it out for race and championship honours. Running within the highly-promoted MSVR package you can expect close racing in front of large crowds in a season that lasts from April to October.
This year’s Grove and Dean Motorsport Insurance Challenge is set to take place in Snetterton, Norfolk, this weekend with Sportscar and single-seater ace David Brabham taking the wheel! But what’s that you hear? His son; Dunlop MSA British Formula Ford race- winner, Sam Brabham will be upfront with him? Yup, you heard correctly, making history this will be the first time the father and son duo share a drive, and the first time that both have ever driven the Sponsored Radical SR3RS.
In an interview with the racing pair, father David stated: “I am really looking forward to having my first race with Sam this weekend at Snetterton. We have never driven a Radical before, but I am sure it will be a lot of fun,”. “It will be a great learning experience for Sam to drive another car and for me to pass on my 30 years’ experience in a real racing environment. I thank Phil Abbott of Radical for this opportunity.”
Sam replied to his father’s kind words with: “It’s a fantastic opportunity to be racing a new car as well as being teammates with dad, who has so much experience I know I will learn things I can’t learn anywhere else. It should be a great weekend and I am really looking forward to it.” Sam also stated in the interview that he was looking forward to the SR3 Challenge as it’s famously known for its wheel-to-wheel racing!
Each meeting features two 15-minute qualifying sessions and a pair of 40-minute endurance races (or a 90-minute race in the case of Oulton Park and Castle Combe), with the opportunity for one or two drivers per car. Teams are limited to one set of tyres per weekend, limiting costs and levelling competition.
In an interview with Phil Abbott the Radical Sportscars Technical Director, he stated that:
“It’s always a privilege to welcome a driver like David with experience and success across a range of motorsport disciplines including Formula One, Le Mans, ALMS, British F3 and the Bathurst 1000 – with David’s extensive Le Mans experience I’m sure he’ll feel right at home in the SR3 RS. The fighting spirit displayed by Sam in this year’s Dunlop MSA British Formula Ford Championship season will serve him well in the competitive Snetterton field, featuring four Le Mans Series racers amongst others.”
