Corsa to make Guinness World Records attempt

Vauxhall is going to send its newest generation of Corsa to attempt take the Guinness World Records title for the Largest GPS Drawing.

This is to celebrate the release of the fourth generation model of the Corsa and Vauxhall will be sending an early prototype of the car to make the attempt.

Pioneer of GPS art Jeremy Wood will be in charge of creating the image, while motoring journalists will be applying the final flourishes as they test the new Corsa as part of its UK-wide launch this month.

Mr Wood has been creating GPS art over land, water and in the air for over a decade. He has had his work exhibited internationally and there is a permanent collection of Mr Woods’ art in the London Transport Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the University of Arts in London.

GPS-Art is created by drawing, travelling and technology to create the large-scale image. The journey is recorded by the GPS receiver’s memory using a transponder and can then be downloaded. This will display the final picture.

To get the world record for Largest GPS Drawing, Vauxhall must beat a minimum distance of 4,451 miles. It aims to have this done upon completion of the UK-wide tour, which will see it cover 7,000 miles and visit most of the country’s towns and cities.

The final image will be unveiled at the end of October and will stretch from Scotland to the South Coast of England. Clues as to what it could be include the claim that it will be a highly spectacular virtual drawing and that it will be particularly relevant to the day on which it goes live.

PR manager for Vauxhall product and heritage Simon Hucknall said: “Corsas can be found in every village, town and city around the UK, so we wanted to visit as many locations as possible during the record attempt to raise awareness of the new car.

“We also wanted to create a truly unifying image using modern technology, which squared well with the level of innovation in the new car.”
