Europes premier winter show for historic motorsport, Race Retro, returns once again to Stoneleigh Park in Coventry starting the 2015 motorsport season off in truly classic fashion.
Enthusiasts of historical motorsport were well catered for with four halls of finest classic cars, modern supercars, all types of competition cars, modern and historic motorcycles and automobilia.
Visitors were treated to a truly outstanding display of historic motor vehicles spread out over the four halls.
One car that was impossible to miss was the 16.5 litre Fiat Issotta Fraschini, the ‘Land Speed Record’ car of Mike Vardy.
Over a century later, the chassis has been re-created and the Fiat ran for the first time just over a year ago and, at 17 feet long and weighing around two tons, is a sight to behold.
For those that wished to see Group B Rally Cars in action they had four separate opportunities over the weekend to brave the cold weather and watch cars from what I believe to be the golden era of rally racing racing around the purpose built circuit.
Before heading outdoors they had the opportunity to see the cars being prepped for racing.
Before the main session started we were treated to some classic karting.
The rally stage was started by the rally legend Ari Vatanen who was more than happy to perform a couple of laps for his fans.
Then it was on to the rallying.
This show always has lots to offer from the static displays, Silverstone auctions, auto jumble, trade stands, special guests to the spectacle of actual racing in the 1000+ acres of Stoneleigh Park and I am sure nobody left disappointed.
