There’s no denying that Audi is one of the most sleek car brands out there both in looks and performance, a thought that judges at the Auto Express awards seemed to agree with.

Audi-A6 Ultra

The car brand scooped up a couple of awards for the new A3 Cabriolet and the 64 mpg A6 TDI ultra Saloon. Each car was commended at the annual awards in London on Tuesday July 15th, where the A3 Cabriolet 1.4 TFSI was given the accolade for best convertible and the A6 2.0 TDI SE was named the best executive car.

Auto Express magazine editor-in-chief Steve Fowler said about the win for the Audi A6: “It’s a return to the top spot for the Audi A6 thanks to the brilliant new ultra model. It combines the all important low CO2 and high mpg figures business users crave, along with the quality, comfort and kit they want.

“Audi has managed to produce all that in a car that’s brilliant to drive, too.”

Indeed, lower emissions is certainly something that is proven through the A6 as its power is provided through a 2.0 engine that fits in with forthcoming emissions regulations in the European Union.

It offers 190 PS and 400 Nm of torque, which is linked to either a six-speed manual or an efficiency-optimised seven-speed S tronic transmission. For those who opt for the latter, their Audi A6 TDI ultra Saloon can reach up to 64.2 mpg, while its emissions are 14 per cent lower than its alternative option as it produces around 114 g/km.

Even so, it is still a fast car as it can go from 0 to 63 mph in 8.2 seconds and reach a top speed of up to 144 mph.

As for the reason why the A3 Carbriolet took away a trophy, Mr Fowler said: “We Brits love our convertibles and they don’t come any better than the Audi A3 Cabriolet. It looks tremendous – so important in this market – with all the quality we’ve come to expect from Audi. And although it does without a roof, it’s as brilliant to drive as any other A3.”

The A3 Cabriolet Sport uses the A3 Saloon as its basis but features a retracting powered fabric acoustic hood that can be put down in just under 18 seconds and at speeds of up to 31 mph. Meanwhile, it is capable of going from 0 to 62 mph in 9.1 seconds. Its fuel efficiency can also be measured at 57.6 mpg while its emissions are 114 g/km.

Meanwhile, the Audi A1 also attracted some attention as the car was highly commended in the premium small car category.

As well as Audi, a number or other popular car brands were applauded for some of their models at the Auto Express Awards.

Jaguar’s F-Type Coupe was the winner in its class, while the Jaguar F-Type convertible was commended in the roadster category and the chief executive of Jaguar Land Rover, Dr Ralf Speth, was added to the Auto Express Hall of Fame.

Readers also gave Volvo the award for best design following the unveiling of its Concept Estate at the Geneva motor show earlier this year.
