The 2014 North American International Auto Show has got into full swing in Detroit, with a number of exciting and intriguing cars gracing the event.

Just one of the many exciting additions to the exhibition is Audi’s latest in crossover concept design, currently known as the Allroad Shooting Brake.

The futuristic presentation and sculpting is seen both inside and out of the car, while the vehicle’s power is intended to set a precedent for future Audi models.

It comes with an efficient hybrid drive system, incorporating two electric motors that are twinned to a more conventional 2.0-litre TFSI. This technology helps to create 292 PS and 380 Nm of torque. However, this can be increased to 408 PS and 650 Nm torque at the top level.

This culminates in an electronically limited top speed of 155mph and a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds, which is not too shabby for a hybrid car.

The car comes as a result of Audi taking all of its knowledge and expertise of rugged allroad vehicles and the coming e-tron hybrids to create a model that is both eye-catching and ahead of the curve when it comes to its segment.

According to Audi, the car exhibits both the elegant lines of a shooting brake model, alongside the purposeful stance of an allroad machine. The engine system as also melded together to deliver what the manufacturer describes as an “e-tron quattro” design.

Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the board of AUDI AG, technical development, said: “The show car combines sex appeal, highly efficient e-tron-quattro technology that produces 300 kW of power yet only consumes 1.9 l/100 km of fuel (equating to 149 UK mpg) and cutting-edge electronic applications. We are offering very concrete glimpses of the near future in this show car.”

The car is supposed to offer excellent performance, as well as quality functionality and high levels of versatility, making it the perfect machine for those with an active lifestyle.

Furthermore, the car is a design extension to another recent Audi show car – the Audi Sport quattro concept – which made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013.

The car’s body has been constructed out of lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre, that remains strong and durable despite its minimal bulk. It also features Audi’s unique MatrixBeam LED headlights.

Adding to the impression of size and strength, the car is presented with large wheels and flared wheel arches, to give it that extra element of toughness.

In addition to the interior technologies, the inside of the car has had space maximised as much as possible, with room enough for four adults.

The narrow sports seats provide the driver and front passengers with optimal body support, delivering comfort and the pinnacle in driving positioning.

Despite only having three doors, the Audi concept features and easy entry function which improves access to the rear seats.

Furthermore, these can be folded down if needed to increase the space to store larger equipment, for sport or travel for example.

Audi has also delivered a simple yet effective solution to the driver’s access to the centre console, with the feature moving depending on where the front seat is adjusted to. This helps to keep it within optimal distance from the person behind the wheel.

A TFT display screen shows vital driving information using 3D graphics, and provides great access to the infotainment systems, such as maps and radio.
