The Commonwealth Games are just around the corner and while the athletes are all preparing for their own events, some are also gearing up with Ford for a new campaign.
Ford, which is an official automotive partner for the games, has announced which athletes will be working as brand ambassadors for its new #PlayYourPart campaign. This aims to encourage participation, interaction and support over social media channels in the run up to and throughout the event.
A number of successful athletes who will be playing their part in the games have stepped up to become brand ambassadors for Ford. Among these are Hannah Miley, the Scottish swimmer who took part in the 400m individual medley in the London 2012 Olympics.
There is also the Welsh Paralympic Sportsman of the Year and champion at both discus and shot put Aled Davis, as well as Northern Irish track athlete Katie Kirk, English gymnast Kristian Thomas and Scottish track athlete Eilish McColgan. The latter will surely be hoping to repeat the success of his mother, Liz McColgan, who won gold at the 1986 Edinburgh games.
They will be posting updates to playyourpart.ford.co.uk, which will also have new challenges and content posted frequently.
Managing director for Ford of Britain Anthony Ireson said: “We’re delighted that such a fantastic group of young and promising athletes will be supporting the #PlayYourPart campaign, and cannot wait for the Games to begin.”
Ford has an army of vehicles that will be supporting the Games, many of which are energy-efficient and market-leading. These include the Ford C-Max, Ford S-Max, Ford Focus, Ford Galaxy and Ford Tourneo.
The car manufacturer aimed to include vehicles that produce low carbon dioxide emissions to support the idea of a sustainable Commonwealth Games event.
Ford is also providing a dedicated fleet of vehicles, which will be supporting the Queen’s Baton Relay as it passes through Glasgow on the final leg of its journey. By the end, the baton will have travelled 120,000 miles and for 248 days across a number of countries.
