Aston Martin has revealed some details on the highly potent and exclusive new Vantage GT3 special edition.
Only 100 of these cars are set to be made and they represent the combining of much of Aston Martin’s learning over years of sports car competitions around the world.
The Vantage GT3 is equipped with a new version of Aston Martin’s 6 litre V12 engine, which generates around 600 PS. This car weighs 100 kg less than a standard V12 Vantage S.
This car has been comprehensively re-engineered and had a lot of restyling compared to other Vantage models. The car is lower and wider than many of the other Vantage cars. It has a broader track at the front and rear that helps it to get more composed cornering, which is due to a reduction in lateral load transfer.
Fitted as standard are Michelin Pilot Super Sport tyres, which make sure that the car’s handling is particularly high level.
As well as these features, the car also has a number of other additions that are inspired by motorsport. For example, carbon fibre is used inside and out on the car, including on a number of features that make the car more aerodynamic such as the rear spoiler and front splitter.
This aerodynamics package gives the car more downforce and allows for greater levels of grip and stability at higher speeds.
The Vantage GT3 special edition was designed and engineered exclusively at Aston Martin’s headquarters in Gaydon, Warwickshire. Aston Martin says that it is the most overt expression of what defines the Vantage cars, describing it as “an inspirational sports model offering supreme driveability on the road, and uncompromising dynamic performance on track.”
In terms of carbon fibre features, the car comes with front wings, a bonnet and door casings made out of this material as standard. There is also the option to have the roof made out of carbon fibre. These are intended to make the car weigh less. Other weight-saving features include a lithium ion race-derived battery and optional polycarbonate rear window and rear quarter windows. Because of these measures to reduce the car’s mass it now weighs only 1,565 kg squared.
There are a number of engineering upgrades that are unique to the vehicle. It has magnesium inlet manifolds with revised geometry, a lightweight magnesium torque tube and an exhaust system that is full titanium with centre outlets.
On the inside, the car has a full carbon fibre centre stack and touch-sensitive control array. To keep with the track-ready theme of the car, it is fitted with carbon fibre sports seats. The interior has an Alcantara trim and there are options to get a number of bespoke features that were created by Q by Aston Martin, the marque’s own personalisation service.
Speaking about the new Vantage GT3 special edition, chief executive officer of Aston Martin Dr Andy Palmer said: “Motorsport is in our blood at Aston Martin. The Vantage is the car we campaign in top level sports car racing around the world and so it seems only fitting that we offer an exclusive, limited edition Vantage that expertly fuses our motorsport know-how with our road car prowess.”
