Ice driving is certainly a skill and for drivers who have this trait, there could be an opportunity to drive a high performance car in these conditions.
Aston Martin is taking its British luxury sports cars to a US resort for its Aston Martin On Ice event. Here, drivers will get to take the cars through demanding and rugged environments in the Rocky Mountains.
This event will be returning to the western town of Crested Butte following a successful debut year in 2014. The return of Aston Martin On Ice is set to take place sometime in early 2015.
Over the course of three days, drivers will be trying the sports cars in environments that are very different to the roads they are typically used to. The program is set on a ten acre surface that takes 250 man hours to construct and is designed to entertain and inform participants in On Ice.
Each of the tracks that have been set up in Colorado have been tailored to match up with Aston Martin’s exacting requirements. A team of experts from the brand meticulously build and maintain the tracks before On Ice starts and throughout the activities over the three days in February.
Among the features that help to make up the Aston Martin track are a braking exercise loop, a slalom, skid pad and a full circuit. The team has already been working hard on the track for a number of weeks.
While the track may sound daunting to some, participants in the event should bear in mind that they will be facing it under expert tuition. They will learn to test their car control and hone their skills in a series of braking, cornering and handling exercises. After that, they will be putting their skills to the test on a frozen road course that is a mile long.
President of Aston Martin in the Americas Julian Jenkins said: “After a hugely successful first year we are returning with an On Ice program that will once again deliver a genuinely thrilling experience in Colorado’s breath-taking high country.
“Combining extreme driving, in an extreme environment, with typically sumptuous Aston Martin luxury living, the 2015 On Ice activity is sure to be amongst the highlights of our year.”
While at the accommodation, drivers can book to take part in a number of non-driving events. These include going on a dog sled tour or getting a snow mobile ride.
On Ice runs twice in succession. It will happen from February 20th to 22nd 2015 and also from February 22nd to 24th 2015. Participants can register to take part by completing a form on the website or by either telephoning or emailing the Aston Martin Concierge.
It is one of a number of bespoke driving experience events set up by Aston Martin in the US. Among the others is Route of the Rockies, which took place during summer 2014. This saw drivers setting off from Aspen in Colorado and driving along high altitude roads in the Rocky Mountains stashed among 14,000 foot peaks.
