The annual day of amusement has arrived and manufacturers are getting in on the fun by releasing a number of hilarious press releases.

We take a look at some of the top laughs from April Fools’ Day.

Volkswagen teaches dogs to drive

Volkswagen teams up with the RSPCA to teach dogs how to drive its commercial vehicles.

Tulip, Jacob and Harry all put their paws to the wheel of an Amarok after being taught to steer the 180PS four-wheel-drive machine using a wooden trolley pulled by a piece of string.

Of course the number plate of the car for this stunt was particularly apt – FR5T APR.

Anna White, manager at the Southridge RSPCA centre, said: “We wanted to demonstrate how intelligent rescue animals can be.

“All we have essentially done here is to train the dogs to execute ten sequential behaviours, albeit fairly complicated behaviours! The past few months have been a lot of fun, but there is a serious reason behind the training.”

It was good Volkswagen, but not quite enough to catch us off guard!

Pata Honda team tests young drivers’ ‘speed gene’

The Pata Honda racing team has taken driver development to a whole new level, by testing children of less than one year old on the Honda CBR1000RR SP racing machines.

It is believed the youngsters Max Haslam and Jake Rea, sons of regular team riders Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea, possess the ‘speed gene’, meaning they will be perfect to take on the racing challenge.

Youth development manager at Honda Pieter Breddels said: “With world championship racers seemingly getting younger every year – just like policemen, really – we’ve decided that we need to start investing in youth. Jonathan’s father raced and won a TT and Leon’s dad was pretty handy, too, so it absolutely HAS to be a genetic thing. If it’s not, we’re going to look a bit silly, but the lads will have had some fun.”

Come on now Honda, this is just too crazy!

Citroen reveals Cactus Arsenal edition

For all die-hard Arsenal fans, Citroen has delivered a rather unique version of the C4 Cactus that will match their fanatical nature.

Citroën C4 Cactus

The special red, blue and gold version of the model, which also features the club crest, is a must for any Gunner. Only 11 units of the car will be produced and will feature Citroen’s brand new Geo Organised Away-day Location, Information & Entertainment interface (aka G.O.A.L.I.E).

This touchscreen system is preloaded with the club’s away fixtures and allows drivers to search through a database of pie and mash vendors in the local area. It also comes with a music playlist with the very best football anthems.

According to Citroen, the Arsenal C4 Cactus will be available to order from all of their showrooms across the country. Except, of course, at Citroen Tottenham.

We get the feeling some Arsenal fans might be disappointed this one isn’t true!

Cooper T, anyone?

To provide a solution to the motoring world’s ongoing battle with sustainability, MINI has developed a new Cooper T model that runs on the nation’s favourite tipple.

Mini Cooper TEA

According to the manufacturer, the latest advancement in technology can run for 40 miles on a single cup of tea.

In addition to VVT, ABS and DSC, the car also comes with DAT – or Dunk Avoidance Technology. This stops passers by from dipping their biscuits in the car’s fuel tank.

Head of Cooper T engineering Dr Ivana Kuppa said: “This particular project has been brewing for years. Our extensive research has shown that the nation’s favourite drink is also an ideal biofuel.”

Oh MINI. Way to encourage us not to drink (tea) and drive.
