The new performance version of the Adam range, the Grand Slam, has been released. This new car from Vauxhall is one that promises to be slick in design and spirited in power.
It was first seen at the Geneva Motor Show in 2014 as a car to contend with the Fiat 500 Abarth. The Adam Grand Slam comes with a 1.4 litre turbo powertrain and has a specially-tuned chassis as well as a VXR braking system.
The Adam was particularly popular in the UK’s A-sector of the car market when it was first released in 2013. Across Europe, it has sold 125,000 models so far, with 22,000 of these in the UK. These sales went up by 72 per cent last year, according to figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and 90 per cent of these were to private buyers.
Now the Adam’s performance model is joining the range, keeping its contemporary signature style very much a part of it but with a little more aggressive look and extra power.
Speaking about the Adam Grand Slam, chairman and managing director at Vauxhall Tim Tozer said: “The Adam Grand Slam has been designed for people who want to enjoy a sporty driving experience in a car with a unique and individual look.”
“I’m sure the latest addition to the Adam range will be just as successful as its stylish stablemates.”
There are a number of Vauxhall design cues included with the car, such as the blade in the lower door and the so-called shock wave around the door handles. It includes wing-shaped daytime running lights and rear lamps, which both incorporate LED technology.
This car looks more muscular than the standard Adam thanks to its front lip spoiler, side sill moldings and extended rear bumper cut-out that has a visible exhaust tail pipe.
The Adam Grand Slam will be arriving in showrooms in March, with prices starting at £16,995 on the road.
