By default, any Porsche is special, especially when it comes to the Cayenne SUV. A bulky SUV that saw the brand diversify away from sports cars for the first time in 2003.

Now, Porsche will spice up the Cayenne range by offering two new Platinum Edition versions of the Cayenne S.

Platinum Editions of the standard Cayenne were added to the range in 2016 and the higher performance Cayenne S variant will undergo a similar embellishment this time, receiving a more fleshed-out spec list.

What’s New?

From the outside, the special edition SUV is denoted by its racy 21-inch sport edition wheels in platinum with a satin finish, glossy exterior detailing, dynamic Xenon headlights and high-gloss black, tinted privacy glass.

In addition to the standard black and white exterior colours, there are also five optional metallic paint finishes available: jet black, mahogany, purpurite, carrara white and rhodium silver.

Interior

Inside, you get heated eight-way leather sports seats with alcantara seat centres from the Cayenne GTS and bespoke door sills. While tech upgrades include the addition of front and rear park assist, Porsche’s connect plus sat-nav and infotainment module and a Bose surround sound system.

There’s also automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors that prevent glare from the traffic behind.

Power

You’d be forgiven for expecting all these extra gadgets and aesthetic embellishment to add up to a more potent performance. Sadly, the Platinum Editions aren’t any quicker than the regular Cayenne S and use the same engine range. This comprises a 414bhp 3.6-litre six-cylinder bi-turbo unit – priced at £64,802 – and a 4.1-litre 379bhp V8 diesel, costing £66,847.

The first Platinum Edition Cayenne S models will meet their buyers in the spring.
