BMW’s rapid X5M and X6M SUVs are already pretty special, thanks in part to their ability to clear a 0-62mph sprint in 4.2 seconds.
Now, the Munich-based brand has revealed new Black Fire special editions of the pair, ahead of their August arrival.
The cars’ engines haven’t been altered so you could say ‘fire by name, fire by nature’. Instead, any changes are purely cosmetic with model-unique styling flourishes, intended to inject a hefty dose of exclusivity.
With a label like ‘Black Fire’, you’d expect plenty of noir and you’d be right. Each car comes with a sapphire black metallic paintjob and ride on black forged 21-inch M alloy wheels, with weight-optimised mixed-sized tyres that are 10-inches at the front and 11.5-inches at the back.
What about the interior? Well, it’s as plush as you’d like with fully-electric M multifunctional seats with integrated headrests, full fine-grain Merino leather upholstery in contrasting black and mugello red, with the interior trim finished in piano black.
The driver gets a multifunctional M leather steering wheel with aluminium shift paddles as standard, but buyers have the option of upgrading to a BMW M Performance Alcantara steering wheel with light-blue leather motorsport accent at no extra cost.
This special steering wheel is said to create a racing feel and boasts an eye-catching design with extremely prevalent gripping area made from Alcantara for optimal grip in all temperatures.
BMW says this is perfectly suited to the impressive driving performance and dynamics demonstrated by every BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M.
Like the standard X5M and X6M, the Black Fire models use a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol engine with 567bhp at 6,000rpm and 553lb ft of between 2,200 and 5,000rpm.
The new special editions will be available from August 2017.
