BMW M4 ///M Heritage Edition: Stupid Name, Cool Car!

From the same geniuses that made the iconic kidney grilles bigger and made the 1 Series front-wheel-drive, we present to you the name of the new special edition M4: The ‘M4 forward slash forward slash forward slash M Heritage Edition’.

Don’t get us wrong, the M4 ///M Heritage Edition is an incredibly cool car with many neat features that we’ll get into in just a second, but first, we must cover two things. One, the name is ridiculous and two, they haven’t even got the M colours right.

I don’t remember the BMW M logo having any purple in it, yet BMW offer the new M4 ///M Heritage Edition in three colours: Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue metallic and Imola Red. All we are seeing is light blue, purple and red. Maybe it’s just a bad picture, or maybe BMW are just losing the plot?

Speaking of losing the plot, BMW have also decided to fully embrace and adopt ‘///M’ (or ‘forward slash forward slash forward slash M’, as we like to call it) as an official word in the brand’s vocabulary. It’s also incredibly ironic that they’ve made a ‘Heritage Edition’ M4, a car that has a rich history spanning a grand total of 5 years, starting from its original creation way back in 2014.

Anyway, enough of the besmirching. This car is actually pretty amazing and has a bunch of little extras that are definitely cool enough to make people impulse buy this car for a price that is likely tens of thousands more than the standard M4.

Only 75 examples of this car will be sold in the UK and 750 models will be produced in total. Each car will have its model number on the interior trim and on the door sills marking ‘1/750’.

The important stats

The new BMW M4 ///M Heritage Edition will be able to do 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds, have a limited top speed of 155 mph and return roughly 27.2 mpg.

This special M4 will be powered by the same BMW 3.0-litre straight-six-engine with M TwinPower Turbo, but it will produce 444 hp and 550 Nm of torque, unlike the standard M4 that produces 425 hp.

Some cool frills

Owners can enjoy the sight of special ‘1/750’ and ‘Edition ///M Heritage’ imprints on the interior trim and door sills every time they enter the car. On the front seat headrests, each car will also have ‘///M Heritage’ in turquoise, orange or red to match the exterior colours, Laguna Seca Blue, Velvet Blue metallic and Imola Red respectively.

Speaking of the seats, those are exclusive as well, if you haven’t noticed already. Made with Merino M leather, they feature contrast stitching, bicolour design and some pretty crazy gaps on the backrest.

The interior trim is carbon fibre and is an exclusive design for the M Heritage M4. Within the carbon weave, you can see the ///M colours – another thing you will only find in these cars.

On the top of the car, the roof is also, you guessed it, carbon fibre. To make the roof look even cooler, the smart people over at BMW have added the M stripe, showcasing the iconic light blue, dark blue, red combination with no purple to be seen!

Supporting the car are the 20- inch alloy wheels in a star spoke design finished in matte Orbit Grey. Better be careful where you park your car with these wheels as they’ll likely be worth over £1,000 each! The car is also fitted with mixed tyres for optimum performance and grip.

The car will make its world debut at the Nürburgring on 13th September 2019 and deliveries are expected in November of this year.

From what we’ve learned from what BMW have released, the car will only be available with an automatic (dual-clutch) transmission, which will be ridiculous if true! Considering its made for the BMW enthusiasts and even called ‘Heritage Edition’, how can they get away with selling it without a manual option?
