And there’s good news for the BMW crowd, because an even quicker version is on the horizon in the form of the M2 Competition.Available to order from mid-May with prices starting from £49,285 (£2,585 more than the normal M2), this fierce variant cranks up power output to 404bhp, available between 5,250 and 7,000rpm, while torque now peaks at 550Nm between 2,350 and 5,200rpm, representing an uplift of 50Nm.All this means that the benchmark 0-62mph sprint now takes 4.2 seconds in models fitted with BMW’s M DCT automatic transmission, and 4.4 seconds for manual variants. Top speed is electronically limited to 155mph as in the regular M2, but adding the optional competition-focused M Driver’s Package raises this to 170mph.Other technical changes include revised chassis tuning and an upgraded brake system that together result in sharper handling and a more spirited drive. The M2 Competition isn’t just about tastier performance, as there are also visual clues to its more potent nature, such as a new front spoiler design and kidney grille, finished in high-gloss Shadow Line black, which features on the side gills on the front wings too.A dark M Competition badge graces the rear end of the car, while the race-inspired design of the new double-arm door mirrors improve the aerodynamics. What do you think of the M2 Competition? Is it worth the best part of £50k? Tell us what you think down in the comments.
