As the British carmaker celebrates its 110th anniversary, the new F1 car is a nod to the company’s rich heritage and represents a new era for the brand.
The AMR23 features a range of updates and revisions compared to last year’s car, which finished seventh overall in the Constructors’ Championship. The most significant change is the arrival of Fernando Alonso, a two-time World Champion who replaces the retired four-time World Champion, Sebastien Vettel. Meanwhile, Lance Stroll remains part of the team for his seventh year in F1.
Compared to last year’s car, which had to comply with wide-ranging technical changes for the 2022 season, the new AMR23 has a more modest update. Aston Martin notes that “there is only a subtle refinement of the regulations for this year, with a few small adjustments focused on ensuring compliance and improving safety”.
However, these changes are not insignificant, as the new car incorporates a 15mm higher floor limit to protect against the ‘porpoising’ effect that many teams struggled with last year. Additionally, there are larger rear-view mirrors, and the front wing, sidepods, and engine cover have been redesigned for improved aerodynamic efficiency.
In addition to the new F1 car, Aston Martin has also revealed details of its new Formula One campus. This state-of-the-art facility will be located at Silverstone and will feature a wind tunnel, simulator, and exhibition space. All of these will be completed by the end of 2024, which is a clear sign of the company’s long-term commitment to the sport.
Fernando Alonso is excited about the prospects of the new car and the new facility, saying “I have always said that I could see the ambition that shines bright at AMF1. And, as we launch the car in this brand-new factory, I think everyone can now see the scale of the ambition and determination at the heart of this organisation. Just as important is the car – and the AMR23 looks incredibly neatly packaged and highly efficient. I was pleasantly surprised when I sampled last year’s car for the very first time, and I think there is plenty of performance we can unlock together. I can’t wait to get started.”
To commemorate its long and storied history, the Aston Martin F1 car will wear a redesigned logo with a ‘110 Iconic Years’ crest. According to the company, this year’s Silverstone Grand Prix will be a “special celebration of the British manufacturer’s past, present, and future.” All in all, it’s an exciting time for Aston Martin, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for this iconic British brand!
