Aston Martin has announced its most ambitious racing programme so far. It’s planning a five-car campaign at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and 24 Hours of Le mans as well as two GT3 entries at the Nurburgring 24 hours.
It’s the eleventh year that Aston Martin has been competing in motor sport and it will be sending three Vantage GTEs to join the GTE Pro class and two to the GTE Am class at the WEC.
The racing team at Aston Martin has racked up 19 race wins and three championship titles over its time in motorsports. Now it is aiming to get the GT manufacturer’s title and both GT titles at 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This is Aston Martin’s fifth year of competing at the world-famous endurance race at the Nurburgring. In the top SP9 class for GT3 cars the brand is set to double its entry.
All of Aston Martin’s cars that are due to take part in the endurance races at Le Mans and the Nurburgring are based on the road-going versions of the brand’s Vantage range. There are three different models taking part, the V8 Vantage, V8 Vantage S and V12 Vantage S, and they each use one of two advanced engines.
Commenting on the race programme for this year, chief executive officer of Aston Martin Dr Andy Palmer said: “Announcing our largest racing programme to date ten years to the day after Aston Martin Racing’s debut win at Sebring 12 Hours clearly shows how the team has progressed, building year-on-year on its success.
“Our multiple wins last year underlines our ability to perform at the highest level and, as we look forward to the 2015 season, we’re anticipating another exciting and highly competitive year of exhilarating GT racing in the WEC, as well as at Le Mans and the Nürburgring.”
The 2015 season for Aston Martin Racing will kick off with The Prologue, which is the official WEC test session at Circuit Paul Ricard in France. This will be taking place on March 28th and 29th.
