Aston Martin and Zagato have released the first renderings of the DBS GT Zagato – one of the cars designed to mark Zagato’s centenary.
World-renowned Italian design house Zagato has released detailed renderings of the new DBS GT Zagato – the second half of the DBZ Centenary Collection. The collection is to be launched to celebrate the centenary of the legendary Zagato signature.
The unique project is intended to pay tribute to an iconic car through the creation of a future classic.
Using Aston Martin’s acclaimed DBS Superleggera as a starting point, and inspired by the voluptuous shapes of the original DB4 GT Zagato, designers from Aston Martin and Zagato have worked together to create a similarly evocative design language.
When it comes to key design features, the fresh interpretation of the iconic double-bubble roof stands out. Its clean, sculptural form stretches the full length of the canopy, discarding the traditional rear windscreen for a purer roofline. The double bubble motif continues across the cars bonnet, complemented by a wide wrap around windscreen that removes any severe lines above the vehicle’s shoulder line.
Adding to the striking effect are muscular rear haunches, a unique wheel design, headlamps, and – of course – the dramatic front grille: a key feature for all Aston Martin Zagato designs.
Speaking about the DBZ Zagato Collection, Marek Reichman, Aston Martin Lagonda’s executive vice president and chief creative officer, said: “In the DB4 GT Zagato Continuation we have one of the world’s most beautiful and instantly recognisable pieces of car design. Creating a car fit to stand alongside it was always going to be a formidable challenge, but also a great motivation.”
He added that both teams – Aston Martin and Zagato – have “risen to the task magnificently”, by taking the DBS Superleggera and creating a car “which retains its identity as an Aston Martin, but expresses itself as only a Zagato can”.
“Sensational-looking and extremely rare, it is the modern incarnation of a timeless icon,” he finished.
