Are The 2020s The Decade of 300mph Cars?

A handful of cars could be breaking the 300mph top speed barrier this decade!

The late 2010s saw the addition of many incredibly fast supercars, all of which getting closer and closer to the fabled 300mph mark.

The Koenigsegg Gemera is claimed to have a top speed of around 250mph, as is the Tesla Roadster and the Aston Martin Valkyrie. Even closer to the mark, the SSC Tuatara reached 282.9 mph in its controversial speed run, dethroning Koenigsegg’s Agera RS which reached 277 mph.

Already, Bugatti’s Chiron Super Sport has reached a top speed of 304.7mph and that was back in 2019 but who else can break that same immense speed barrier?

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut

The latest supercar to be introduced to the all-star portfolio of Swedish boutique supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg is the Jesko. Named after the owner and CEO’s, Christian von Koenigsegg), the Jesko is surely going to have no expense spared in its development to become the ultimate supercar.

The fastest version of the car will be called the Jesko Absolut and is said to be capable of speeds well over 300mph and acceleration of 0-60mph in just 2.5 seconds. As the spiritual successor to the Agera RS, we won’t be surprised when this car breaks 300mph.

Devel Sixteen

Regarded as more of a wild card, the Devel Sixteen has a lot to prove as it comes from the niche Arab manufacturer Devel Motors. The Dubai-based automakers have been working on the car since 2008, with a concept shown in 2013 and now, in 2022, there are reports of the car having reached production form and currently being tested. Whether this car makes it to complete a verified two-way top speed run is yet to be seen.

Bugatti Bolide

As another example of an ultra-limited production car, the Bugatti Bolide may be niche but it is much more likely to actually reach production thanks to coming from an already established brand with a parent corporation (Volkswagen AG) that has deep pockets!

Only 40 of these track cars are due to be produced and each is claimed to have a top speed of around 311mph. Due to reach production maturity around 2024.

SSC Tuatara

The Tuatara has tarnished the brand reputation of SSC after the first top speed run that was over 300mph was proven to be faked. The founder, Jerod Shelby, had to publicly address the incident and went on to say that it was no lie that this car is capable of speeds over the 300mph mark.

That being said, the Tuatara unfortunately didn’t prove itself on the second top speed run, reaching just 283mph, this time properly verified. It is said that the 1750hp car still has more to give so it’s not unreasonable to think that Jerod Shelby will put it through a third top speed run when the time is right to finally prove to the world what the car is truly capable of.
