The American-born Italian-owned brand disappeared from these shores in 2014, due to dwindling sales and a skeletal range made up of sub-par models that were never going to compete with the best-in-class.Despite all but vanishing from the global marketplace, Chrysler continues to operate proudly in its native North America. Now they’ve just unveiled this impressive new concept.Created by millennials for millennialsNamed the Chrysler Portal Concept, it is a futuristic all-electric people carrier that has been “created by millennials for millennials”. Chrysler claims to be armed with tons of research, but I’ve done zero research and I can tell you that a six-seater MPV isn’t exactly ‘millennial’ material.Anyway, the concept features front and rear sliding doors and boasts a light, spacious airy cabin with a minimalist interior, slim dash and a massive touchscreen infotainment screen. Flexibility is also central to the car’s interior with all four seats being removable and foldable where necessary.The car’s powertrain consists of a single electric motor, driving the front wheels, powered by a 100kWh lithium-ion battery. Chrysler claim that this battery can carry enough electric juice to travel for more than 250 miles. It can also be ‘fast charged’ for another 150 miles in under 20 minutes too.Some appropriately futuristic features are on board too. Facial recognition and voice biometrics recognise different drivers and change the exterior and interior lighting, music, audio settings and destination history to suit the relevant driver.The Portal Concept features a wireless communication system that lets it “talk” to other vehicles, sharing details of nearby crashes or if an emergency vehicle is approaching.There’s also seamless vehicle integration of personal devices and eight docking stations. While community sharing enables passengers to share music, images and videos with other passengers.When will we see it? Who knows. As we suggested earlier, people carriers are hardly en vogue right now, so probably never."},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
Chrysler’s take on millennial motoring
https://smart-motoring.com/latest-news/american-cars/chryslers-take-millennial-motoring/#breadcrumbitem"}]}]
