Texan company Hennessey Performance has been building fine performance vehicles since 1991 and has modded over 1,000 vehicles, often with a subtle retro feel, for enthusiastic customers to date.
The latest is another take on the Ford F-150, the company’s third variation to date.
The Hennessey Heritage Edition F-150 is a supercharged 758hp that can be delivered in either a sport version or as an out-and-out off-roader. All that power comes from using the stock 5-litre V8 engine and adding a 2.9-litre supercharger high-flow air intake along with a catback exhaust and some fuel system upgrades to bring it up to the impressive figure of 758hp. Add to that 660lb ft of torque and you have here one pretty powerful 4×4.
It gets better still. The sport variation offers a suspension lowering kit, Brembo braking system and a front anti-roll bar – all sure to improve handling of course. The off-roader gets a 2.5-inch front suspension levelling kit, a Hennessey front bumper with 5 LED lights inserted in the bumper. The sport arrives with 22-inch alloys, while the off-roader has 20-inch 10-spoke alloys. Overall lift on the off-roader is 3 inches.
Heritage is important to this vehicle. In 1967 Dan Gurney and AJ Foyt won the 24 Hours Le Mans victory in a striking Ford GT MK IV. Striking because of the now famous vivid red paint and the bold white centred racing stripe. You may well have first seen such a unique livery combination on a Hot Wheels, Matchbox or Dinky toy car at Christmas. The Heritage Edition F-150 super-truck adopts this livery to very satisfying effect.
As you might expect with 758hp, the F-150 0-60mph is a tidy number too at just 4.3 seconds. Another interesting (not often quoted, but relative for a heritage vehicle such as this) figure given by Hennessey is the ¼ mile timing, which is 12.6 seconds at 112mph.
Hennessey say that the Heritage Edition F-150 now completes the company’s Heritage line-up, and if you want one then you can expect to pay at least $94,000 (around £73,000) to get your hands on one; but be quick – there are only 19 being built.
