Nissan and Italdesign have teamed up for the first time to create a super-limited GT-R.
A prototype of the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign has been unveiled at the 2018 Goodwood Festival of Speed and if reactions are positive, the car could be the blueprint for a limited run of hand-built production cars.
No more than 50 units would be produced, with each car tailored to the individual customer and bearing a price estimated to start at about €900,000 (£795,521).
Italdesign has developed, engineered and built the car, which is driven by a hand-assembled 3.8-litre V6 VR38DETT engine that produces an estimated 710bhp and 780Nm of torque – a significant uplift on the power output of any stock GT-R, which can sit between 471 and 591bhp.
Visually, key design features include a pronounced power bulge on the hood, stretched LED headlights, a lowered roofline, and prominent ‘samurai blade’ cooling outlets behind the front wheels – we probably shouldn’t ignore the large, adjustable rear wing, mounted with two uprights, either.
Inside, the cabin is finished in ‘liquid kinetic gray’, with distinctive ‘energetic sigma gold’ accents. Two different carbon fibre finishes are extensively used across the center console, instrument panel and door linings, while the seats feature black alcantara and fine black Italian leather.
Alfonso Albaisa, Nissan’s senior vice president of global design, said the Goodwood Festival of Speed was “the ideal setting” in which to reveal the prototype to the world. He commented: “Just like the prototype itself, Goodwood is a celebration of design, performance, a little indulgence and a lot of love of historic and future automotive creativity. “[The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign is] a unique vehicle that will stir the imagination of people to dream even bigger.”
Is the Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign really worth almost £800k? Let us know what you think down in the comments.
