5 Reliable Convertibles For Summer

Worship the sun whilst on the road without worrying about unreliability!

Brits love convertibles. Despite only getting a few sparse days of true glorious sunshine and heat each year, we just can’t help ourselves when it comes to convertibles.

For instance, did you know that the UK is one of the biggest markets for convertible cars in Europe, despite other countries such as Spain, Italy and France having more heat and more sunshine? It doesn’t make much sense but it’s just in our nature to enjoy the sunshine as much as possible, at least when it comes to motoring.

As the sun creeps closer and Summer fast approaches, it’s time to consider which convertibles to consider buying. This time, let’s focus on reliability:

BMW 2 Series Convertible

One that we’re slightly sceptical about, the 2 Series convertible was rated very highly in Whatcar?’s reliability survey with an unbelievable score of 97%. Although a factor in this high score may be due to the fact that many owners reported having their issues fixed under warranty, so best be careful if you are planning to buy a used model that’s out of warranty.

Mazda MX-5

It’s not exactly a big secret that the world’s best-selling roadster is known for its fantastic reliability. It’s currently ranked number 15 on reliabilityindex.com and Whatcar? found that soft-top models between 2005 – 2015 had a reliability rating of 95% and hardtop models had a score of 94.3% from their comprehensive survey results.

Mercedes-Benz SLK

For those looking for a used luxury bargain, look no further than the old SLK from 2004 – 2011. Pick one of these up for a good price and a good history and chances are you should be safe in terms of reliability as this model scored 95% in Whatcar?’s survey. And as a bonus, the car is a hardtop convertible!

Porsche 911 Cabriolet

For motorists with a higher budget and looking for something particularly sporty, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet scores highly on reliability surveys. With Porsche being reported as the UK’s most desirable car brand in a small survey in 2020 it’s great to hear that such a sought-after car is also reliable, scoring 94.5% in Whatcar?’s survey.

BMW 4 Series

The second BMW entry is made by the 4 Series. Previously available in a hardtop convertible format and now, with the new model only available as a soft-top, the 4 Series managed to score incredibly high in Whatcar?’s survey with a score of 93.5%.
