It addressed a feeling that Nissan was making reliable but boring vehicles; aware that the Nissan marque was not as powerful or traditional as the likes of Jaguar or BMW in the west, the company went through a careful, long and steady process, ultimately moving away from the (albeit popular) Almera to producing cars like the 350Z and Qashqai.Kia K4 Debuts at NyiasIn a rather similar way, Kia appears to be trying a similar approach; to partially reinvent itself. A clue to the manufacturing company’s current direction is the forthcoming Kia K4, which debuted at the recent New York International Auto Show 2024, revealing striking looks that are pleasantly reminiscent of vehicles that appeared in the late 1970s and into the 1980s. It certainly breaks the current mould.Kia – Opposites UnitedKia has a thought process that they call Opposites United – a design philosophy that aims to achieve a look that inspires and is slightly more radical than what we often see. Karim Habib, Kia’s Executive Vice President, says that every aspect of the K4 compact sedan’s design ‘further strengthens the relationship between brand and design’. It does seem that Kia is on a bit of a roll, with the Kia EV9 recently winning World Car of the Year at the World Car Awards 2024.2025 Kia K4 – Splitting the DifferenceThe new 2025 Kia K4 has a very definite fastback look to it with some very striking and angular front lighting which seamlessly sweeps into the K4’s body design – it’s a design for a 4-door vehicle, though you might need to look a little harder to spot that it’s actually not a 2-door model. The new K4 is also one of the widest automobiles within its segment, offering slightly more room – especially rear head and legroom – and a much stronger presence. Tom Kearns, Kia’s Chief Designer, says that Kia is ‘splitting the difference’ between the compact and midsize car segments. The K4 will arrive with a 1.6 turbocharged engine offering 190bhp, as well as a 2-litre engine giving the K4 147bhp. The 1.6 version also has paddle shifters and sport pedals for a more sporty feel.Kia K4 InteriorInside the new front-wheel drive Kia K4, we get to see the new, near 30-inch, widescreen digital display plus infotainment touchscreen – which is both Android and Apple compatible. The system also incorporates AI-powered Kia Connect, allowing voice control. A Harman Kardon audio system adds driving enjoyment, as does class-leading acoustic quietness within the cabin. Heated seats add to the comfort for when the temperature dips.Kia ADAS SuiteAs one might expect with a modern, outlooking vehicle, safety is as important as design, and the Kia K4 will get the latest Kia ADAS suite, which offers Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Smart Cruise Control and Lane Keeping Assist along with Forward Collision Avoidance. The latter is designed to detect pedestrians, animals or cyclists and prevent an accident occurring – it works with other cars too, of course.It might be the Kia K4 2025 version, but we can expect this car to arrive in dealership in the latter part of 2024. It will be interesting to see how Kia’s Opposites United approach to the K4 is perceived by the public. I suspect it will do exactly what the Nissan Revival Plan did in its day.Kia K4 Update:See our news article for the latest developments on Kia’s VW GOLF alternative, the 2025 K4 "},{"@context":"https://schema.org/","@type":"BreadcrumbList
@type":"ListItem
{"@type":"ListItem
Kia Introduces a Different Design Approach for the 2025 K4 Compact Sedan
https://smart-motoring.com/kia-2/kia-introduces-a-different-design-approach-for-the-2025-k4-compact-sedan/#breadcrumbitem"}]}]
