British police officers are equipped with some pretty tame vehicles when it comes to chasing down bad guys.

Whenever you see a police car with its lights and siren on, it’s usually a Focus or an Octavia and certainly nothing nearly as exciting as – oh, I don’t know – a BAC Mono!

If you go to the Isle of Man any time soon, that’s exactly what you may encounter after Briggs Automotive Company (BAC) joined forces with the Isle of Man Government to devise the world’s first ever BAC Mono police car.

The BAC Mono is the only road-legal, single-seater supercar and is the joint quickest car you can buy right now, a title it shares with the Lamborghini Aventador. It is also the nippiest road-legal car ever tested by performance car magazine Evo.

‘Remarkable’

Weighing little more than half a tonne and with over 300bhp at its disposal, the Mono can burst up to 62mph in 2.8 seconds, so any Isle of Man-based bad guys have no hope of a clean getaway.

The Isle of Man police force’s Mono is enveloped in official police livery like the rest of its blue light fleet.

PC Andy Greaves is an advanced driver, police motorcyclist and collision investigator, as well as the force’s dedicated Mono driver and naturally, he had plenty of nice things to say about it.

He commented: “It’s a remarkable vehicle, and clearly will be of huge interest to bikers and car drivers alike. We are here to promote safe use of the road, and it’s amazing how many people want to talk to you when this is your transport.”

Sadly, the car’s primary duty won’t be to hunt down villains. Instead, the car will be used to spread the word on road safety and keep drivers both interested and entertained all the while.

PC Greaves continued: “Every opportunity we get, we stop and talk to visitors. Having a show-stopper like a BAC Mono police car on the fleet makes that so much easier.”

Neill Briggs, co-founder of Liverpool-based BAC, added: “The Isle of Man Government has been nothing but amazingly supportive to us, and we’re honoured to be able to play our part in making their roads a safer place.

“This is a world first for both BAC and the Isle of Man and something both parties are incredibly proud of.”
