2017 has given us some great new cars. From the Aston Martin Vantage to the Volvo XC40, new car buyers have been spoilt for choice. You can see some of the best cars that arrived in 2017 here, but what will 2018 serve up? Read on and find out…

Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

We already know how good the Stelvio is and the prospect of a significant horsepower boost (up to 503bhp) and a 0-60mph dash of less than four seconds will only bolster the small SUV’s appeal when it arrives in June, priced from £65,000.

Audi A1

It feels like the littlest Audi has been about forever, but believe it or not, the A1 is still only in its first generation.

In that time, sister brand rivals like the Seat Ibiza and VW Polo have stormed to the front of the class, but the second-gen A1 will make up for lost time by being bigger and roomier yet lighter than before, with a premium, tech-heavy interior. Prices could start from around £16,000 when it goes on sale in the winter.

Aston Martin DB11 Volante

Get hold of a regular DB11, take a tin opener to its roof and voila, you just made a DB11 Volante.

The convertible version of the DB11 is almost identical to its fixed roof counterpart, apart from the electronically retractable soft-top roof that can be done away with in 14 seconds.

Everything else – including its 503bhp four-litre twin-turbo V8 engine – remains unchanged. The only bummer is that its 0-62mph sprint has been hobbled to 4.1 seconds – a fifth of a second slower than the fixed-roof version; hardly a dealbreaker.

Find £159,000 and you can have one come May.

BMW X2

The long-awaited small SUV from BMW finally arrives in March, with prices upwards of £30,000.

It will target younger buyers with its sports-oriented style and it shares plenty with the smaller X1 SUV, such as its platform and many interior elements. Luckily, the X1 is excellent so no worries there.

Ford Fiesta Active

Ford successfully kept the party rolling with the new Fiesta this year and this new Active variant will add SUV-like body cladding and a more elevated ride height, while updated suspension will improve ride comfort.

You can have one from January if you have £17,000 to hand.

Jaguar E-Pace

Jag’s baby F-Pace made quite the impression when it burst into the public consciousness by performing a barrel roll and setting a new world record in the process. This rival to the Q3 and X1 is more than just a circus performer though, and it’ll show you from January.

Jaguar I-Pace

We’ll see not one but two Jaguar SUVs in 2018 with this all-electric effort arriving early in the year. Jag claims it can cover up to 310 miles on a single charge and whizz to 60mph in around four seconds. It puts a futuristic spin on the styling set out with the F-Pace too. Tesla, wipe your brow.

Lamborghini Urus

Lambo is finally hopping on the SUV bandwagon and it’s gonna be a stonker. Revealed as the world’s first super SUV at the start of December, the Urus will combine high luxury with 641bhp and an exterior that is unmistakably Lambo.

It’s coming this summer with a £165,000 price tag.

Volkswagen Up GTI

As one of the best city cars on the market, the VW Up is perfect pocket-rocket material and that’s exactly what we’ll get early 2018.

A single-litre three-pot petrol engine producing 113bhp may not sound much – indeed, it’s 8.8-second 0-62mph time renders it a snail compared to everything else we’ve mentioned here.

However, VW is marketing the Up GTI as a tribute to the original Golf GTI from 1976, breathing life into the concept of the lightweight, compact, no-frills sports car. And that means similar power output and styling.
