Among the myriad concerns surrounding this shift, one of the foremost worries has centered on range limitations, leading to apprehensions about insufficient charging infrastructure.

Xiaomi SU7 – An EV With 746-Mile Range

However, advancements have been remarkable, with ranges now averaging between 300 to 400 miles, a substantial leap from the initial 100-mile threshold.

Xiaomi tantalises enthusiasts with the assertion that their new electric vehicle, the Xiaomi SU7, crafted on the company’s Modena platform, could potentially achieve an astounding range of 746 miles.

The question looms: could such a feat be within reach with current EV technology?

Before we get to that, let’s look at the car itself, which looks tastefully sporty yet still, very generally, family oriented – not as easy an achievement as you might think, looks very nice indeed.

This will be Xiaomi EV’s first production vehicle and will go on sale in 2025 globally, following the brand’s announcement that they would be diving into the EV world in 2021.

The new saloon was unveiled in Beijing a few days ago, with Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, taking pride in saying that Xiaomi was intending to become one of the world’s top five car manufacturers within the next 15-20 years.

Aside from the SU7 saloon, Xiaomi also intends to launch an SUV in the not-too-distant future. But right now, we have the SU7 to ponder…

Performance and Innovation: Decoding the Xiaomi SU7’s Cutting-Edge Features

Xiaomi has built the SU7 to be able to incorporate both 400 and 800-volt systems as well as being able to be powered from either a single motor drivetrain or dual.

The SU7 is intended to be a rival for electric vehicles from the likes of Porsche and Tesla, with the attractive design coming from the experienced Sawyer Li, who has also played a part in the design process of the BMW iX while working for that company.

The Xiaomi SU7 has a co-efficient drag of less than 0.195 making it an exceptionally aerodynamically stable vehicle.

Something which will go towards the tantalising potential of that increased range. The technology used by Xiaomi even goes towards using revolutionary die-casting for the body.

Xiaomi will provide quite a range of options for the SU7, including a V6 model with 295lb ft torque and 295bhp, plus a V6 with increased power producing a further 74bhp and torque.

The former will be available with the 400-volt system while the latter will require 800-volts. Xiaomi says that the SU7 will reach 0-62mph in just under 3 seconds.

Xiaomi will also produce a HyperEngine version which they are calling the V8 with a potential 468lb ft torque and 670bhp, with the further potential for even more impressive SU7 options to come.

101kWh And 132kWh CTB Integrated Batteries

Now what about that eye-catching range? Well, Xiaomi will give the SU7 a lithium-ion battery via CATL which has a range of just under 500 miles.

Intriguingly, and extra 137 miles or 317 miles can be produced via just a 5-minute charge or a 15-minute charge respectively.

The CATL battery is a 101kWh unit, but Xiaomi is also producing a 132kWh unit that will potentially offer 620-miles, though the SU7 platform is also capable of an even more impressive 150kWh unit giving us that fabled 746-miles.

Xiaomi says that it plans to push the limits of performance, the vehicle ecosystem and the mobile smart space within.

If these figures come even close to Xiaomi’s plans and predictions, the Xiaomi SU7 will certainly be a real contender for a title hotly contested by another innovative EV, the smart hashtag 3.
