NISSAN TEATRO CONCEPT

Revealed at this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, the Nissan Teatro for Dayz is an all-electric concept car for drivers in the digital age.

For this concept, the innovative Japanese brand have focused on connectivity and cutting edge technology, trailblazing how future drivers will use their cars.

The idea for the Teatro for Dayz came from throwing out all the ordinary facets for building a car. Nissan then swapped them for the understanding that people are growing up in a world where they are constantly connected to everyone they know.

According to the Japanese brand, time driving is equal to time lost connecting to friends, which they look to change with the Teatro for Dayz.

Speaking on the concept, Nissan’s Product Planning General Manager, Hidemi Sasaki, said: “The generation now getting their first driver’s licences has always been connected through digital devices.”

Sasaki continued that the inspiration for someone to do something, is not fuelled by owning things, like cars, but instead manifests itself in a need to share this experience in an online format.

Calling these drivers “share natives”, Sasaki and Nissan’s product development team have created the ultimate sharing experience concept car.

The interior of the Teatro for Dayz features lounge style seating, allowing those aboard to turn and face each other for conversation.

Door trims, dashboards and seats have all been fitted with flat digital displays, which come to life when the car is in drive mode.

Basically, the entire interior, starting with the instrument panel, is a live display ready for connectivity, whether that be for music, social media or for gaming.

As is to be expected, conventional controls have been swapped for voice controls and motion sensors, including gesture control for the air conditioning and audio system.

The Teatro for Dayz has limited exterior design, dropping Nissan’s signature V motion grill and headlamps.

Executive Design Director Satoshi Tai explains that this was done to take away any of the normal traits of a car, such as aggressiveness, speed, size and elegance.

He implored that: “This car’s identity belongs to the owner, and design assumptions we make just limit their creativity.”

No word yet as to whether the Teatro for Dayz will become more than a concept, but such a reveal is sure to be shared around quickly.
