Designed for Dakar Victory

The Dacia Sandrider represents Dacia’s ambition to conquer the legendary Dakar Rally. This extreme off-road vehicle is the result of a strategic partnership between Dacia and Prodrive.

The Sandrider draws significant inspiration from the Prodrive Hunter, another Dakar racer that made headlines a couple of years ago with its Ford 3.5-litre V6 EcoBoost engine.

Additionally, the recent Dacia Manifesto Concept, a rugged blend of beach buggy and minimalist 4×4, influenced the Sandrider’s bold design.

Sandrider Power and Performance

At the heart of the Dacia Sandrider lies a 3-litre V6 twin-turbo direct-injection engine, delivering a potent 360bhp and a matching torque figure.

This powerhouse is paired with a 6-speed sequential gearbox, ensuring precise and responsive handling in the most demanding environments.

The Sandrider’s tubular chassis contributes to its lightweight construction, crucial for high-performance rallying.

Dacia Rugged Suspension and Advanced Engineering

Built to tackle the toughest terrains, the Dacia Sandrider features a suspension system that provides 350mm of travel, allowing it to navigate obstacles with ease.

The vehicle rides on 17-inch wheels fitted with robust BF Goodrich 37-inch tires, offering the durability and traction needed for desert racing.

The V6 engine runs on Aramco synthetic fuel, a low-carbon alternative developed using renewable hydrogen, making the Sandrider both powerful and environmentally responsible.

Sandrider Driver-Focused Innovations

Dacia and Prodrive took a smart approach by consulting with Dakar drivers to understand their needs.

One key insight was the necessity of easy access to spare tires. Instead of concealing them, Dacia opted for a practical solution, securing the tires with sturdy strapping for quick access.

To further reduce weight, Dacia eliminated unnecessary panels, shaving off about 15kg compared to similar prototypes.

Another clever feature is the use of magnetic panels, which allow bolts to be safely attached to the vehicle during maintenance, preventing them from getting lost in the sand.

Staying Cool in the Desert

The intense heat of desert racing presents a significant challenge, but the Dacia Sandrider addresses this with innovative design.

The vehicle’s panels are infused with anti-infrared pigments, which reduce the cabin temperature by up to 35 degrees. This technology ensures that drivers remain comfortable, even in the most extreme conditions.

Preparing Dacia Sandrider for the World Stage

The Dacia Sandrider is undergoing rigorous testing across the globe. The ultimate goal is to make a strong debut at the 2024 Rallye du Maroc, part of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC), scheduled between October 4th and 11th.

If all goes well, the Sandrider will be ready to take on the Dakar Rally in 2025.

Conclusion

The Dacia Sandrider is not just another road-legal 4×4; it’s a testament to Dacia’s commitment to high-performance engineering and innovative design.

With its powerful V6 engine, advanced suspension, and driver-centric features, the Sandrider is poised to make a significant impact on the rallying world.

As it gears up for its debut on the global stage, the Dacia Sandrider is a vehicle that commands attention and respect.
