Porsche 911 Re-imagined

Singer has produced a car that in some respects simply looks like a cartoon version of a Porsche 911.

This is certainly not a detrimental observation you understand; the Singer DLS-Turbo looks extreme, seemingly with each prominent aspect broadened out slightly – yet it remains very pleasing to the eye.

DLS stands for Dynamics and Lightweight Study – Turbo. And yes of course, it is Singer’s interpretation of a Porsche 911.

The company is a bit of a specialist when it comes to restoring the aircooled Porsche, and what we have here is the Singer DLS now combined with a turbo.

The car itself is a way to bring the 1970’s 934/5 endurance racing Porsche to the public. Back in the day, such cars would be seen during the SCCA Trans American Series, winning 6 out of the 8 races, plus the championship.

About Singer

Singer Automotive Operations Plant in California

Singer, which was founded in 2009, works with enthusiastic Porsche owners who want something a bit special; an owner of a Porsche 911 Type 964 can arrange to send their car to California-based Singer who will carry out a fully comprehensive restoration, plus adding in any required additions.

To start with, each bare metal chassis is carefully strengthened and cleaned to be in a near perfect condition for the remainder of the restoration.

Additional carbon fibre bodywork is integrated into the chassis by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which will optimise the car’s aerodynamic abilities, and the addition of a hood vent will increase cooling.

Users can choose between a track-focused restoration or a more road-going affair with each car tailored to each user’s requirements.

The stunning blood-orange car that we can see here has been created to pursue a track-focused dynamic, with all eyes, of course, heading straight towards the massive and adjustable high-downforce rear wing.

Inside, Singer will start with the original car’s aircooled 3.8-litre flat-6 engine, which is treated much as the chassis and disassembled down to the engine block.

As it is restored, some parts will be replaced with high performance mods as well as new regular components.

The result is an engine that now uses water-cooled cylinder heads and can offer up 700hp.

Suspension is tuned for either track or road using remote adjustable dampers.

Whether road-based or track-based, stopping such a beast is (thankfully) improved with carbon ceramic discs with monobloc callipers pitted against forged magnesium (19-inch front and 20-inch rear) wheels.

All work will be carried out by Singer at its UK base on the Williams campus in Grove, Oxfordshire.

Singer’s rise in the current economic climate has been quite staggering considering the limitations of what they work with.

The company’s workforce has near enough now doubled, with 500 workers currently operated by Singer across the world – 350 of those are working in LA.

It begins to make sense when you consider that there is a bit of a long queue to get Singer to do its thing; currently, the waiting list heads well into 2027!

Singer At Goodwood Festival Of Speed

If such a striking turbocharged version of a classic Porsche 911 appeals, then you can see what Singer can do at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from 13th July until Sunday the 16th.

If you are reading this in the USA, then Singer will be showcasing their Porsche restorations during Car Week in August at the Monterey Peninsula in Caifornia.
