Porsche Reveal Another Heritage Edition

There’s something just right about the looks of the Porsche 911 Sport Classic. Subtle shades of grey and a retro racing number on each door gives this latest addition to the Porsche Heritage Design club that subtle low-key late sixties feel. The 911 Sport Classic actually pays homage to the Carrera 911 2.7 RS and will be one of four limited edition models, the first of which we’ve already seen in the Porsche Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition which slipped into view almost exactly year ago.

While some had accused the Targa 4S Heritage as being more about the looks rather than offering us anything new, this new model couldn’t be further away from that perception – maybe Porsche has listened to the more critical of reviewers, but this Heritage model offers a few more reasons to purchase than just the sight of a retro sticker flying past.

Let’s start with the outside; the lovely warm grey is called Sport Grey with the circular decals being in a lighter shade; it all matches the familiar looking yet unique centre-locking 20-inch and 21-inch alloy wheels perfectly. The familiarity comes from the likely notion that Porsche designers used the classic Fuchs as their design cue here. A sleek solid duck-tail spoiler adds to the smooth lines, which are also enhanced by the lack of side intakes on the body. Apart from that, the body on the 911 Sport Classic is pretty much the same as that on the 992 Turbo, which means its wider by 50mm than a standard Carrera. Porsche PASM electronic damping and a specially tweaked sport suspension allow the ride height to be dropped by 10mm.

Under the bonnet, power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.7-litre 542bhp flat-6 engine. Performance and handling will be governed by the fact that this is a rear wheel drive 7-speed manual model, with torque set at 442lb ft. The Sport Classic is actually the most powerful Porsche 911 manual available right now.

Inside, you begin to notice just how monochromatic the exterior really is, with the high-quality semi aniline seat and door leather in a mid to light cognac brown adding a refreshing dash of warm vintage colour. Good old pepita houndstooth fabric covers the parts you sit on. It all looks rather nice and strangely homely. Backlighting for the dials is green, and there is even real wood on the dash. The overall effect is quite something.

Did I mention that this is a limited edition? Well only 1250 units will be made available for purchase with prices starting at £209,540. And if you don’t appreciate the grey exterior, you can spec other colours too, namely black, dark blue or dark grey, and there is also an option to not have the decals and striping included – though that might prove to be a regrettable decision.
