New Porsche 718 Cayman T and 718 Boxster T

New “touring” versions of the Porsche 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster sports cars have been revealed.

Under the bonnet of the new Porsche 718 T is the same 296bhp two-litre flat four used in the entry-level Cayman and Boxster models, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

With 280lb ft of torque, the engine can get the 1,350kg 718 Cayman T and Boxster T up to 62mph from rest in 5.1 seconds, with a top speed of 171mph.

The T variants really set themselves apart with a lowered sports chassis that is 20mm lower than usual and only used to be available on the top S models. It also has new dynamic gearbox mounts alongside the active drivetrain mounts that increase precision and stability.

Other notable changes include a shortened gearshift, 20-inch titanium grey alloy wheels and the Sports Chrono pack, which offers four driving modes (normal, sport, sport plus and individual) selectable using the ‘mode’ switch on the steering wheel.

Porsche’s torque vectoring system, which features a mechanical rear axle differential lock, is included too, with a dual-clutch PDK transmission coming as an option.

In a bid to limit the car’s weight, the 718 T variants don’t include an infotainment system, with a storage compartment taking its place. Customers can still choose to spec one as a no-cost option though.

Visually, you’ll be able to tell the 718 T from its grey mirror shells featuring logos, and a twin-tailpipe central sports exhaust finished in chrome.

Inside, there’s unique trim with black door pulls in the panels and electronic two-way adjustable sports seats with the 718 logo embroidered on the headrest. The cars also get a 360mm GT sports steering wheel, with Boxster T or Cayman T logos on the instrument dials.

Prices for the 718 Cayman T start from £51,145, with the 718 Boxster T starting at £53,006.
