Range Rover has unveiled new power options

Range Rover adds straight-six engine and hybrid power to 2020 lineup.

Range Rovers have always been great vehicles, but they haven’t exactly been known for their environmental credentials. However, all that is set to change as the brand moves towards creating greener SUVs that don’t compromise on any of the functionality we’ve come to expect.

For its latest line, Range Rover will bring in a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine that combines maximum performance with improved fuel economy.

Drivers will benefit from 550Nm of torque that powers their vehicle from 0 to 60 in just 5.9 seconds, to a maximum speed of 140mph.

Under the bonnet, coordination between an electric supercharger and twin-scroll turbocharger effectively eliminates turbo lag, while – alongside Continuous Valve Lift – power is boosted by allowing the engine to breathe as it delivers efficiency that’s as high as possible.

These features, along with the engine, form part of what’s been dubbed a Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) powertrain designed to achieve fuel economy of 30.4mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 212g/km.

This is part of Jaguar Land Rover’s commitment to ensuring an electrified option is available on all new vehicles from 2020 onwards.

All of the innovation isn’t confined to beneath the bonnet though, with the headlights also updated to include Sign Post Dimming (which means drivers will be able to read road signs without glare) and Tourist Mode so the beam pattern can be adjusted depending on which side of the road the vehicle is being driven on.

Of course, there are also all the classic Range Rover capabilities too, such as Terrain Response 2, Adaptive Cruise Control and High Speed Emergency Braking systems.

Owners will even be able to choose their paintwork from two brand new colours, with Eiger Grey replacing Corris Grey and Portofino Blue stepping in where Loire Blue left off.

Managing director of Jaguar Land Rover UK Rawdon Glover said he’s optimistic the new green technology behind the 2020 Range Rover lineup will be a hit.

“The P400 MHEV option on Range Rover Sport, with its refined, purposeful power delivery, has been well received by UK customers so we anticipate a welcome reception to this addition to the Range Rover range of vehicles,” he added.
