Everyone knows that if you are looking for a cheaper alternative to a well known product, your best bet is China. Widely regarded as the capital of modern manufacturing, China produces the majority of all technological devices but it doesn’t stop there.
In recent years, the country’s transport industry has boomed which means there has never been a greater need for cars in China. Let’s take a look at 3 of the greatest Chinese copycat cars.
Lifan 320
It’s definitely not hard to see which car the Lifan 320 is very similar to. Of course, it’s the very British Mini! This supermini car was debuted in 2008 at the Beijing Auto Show and is sold in China and several other countries including Peru and Russia!
As you would expect from a cheaper supermini, the specifications aren’t fantastic and the body shell was also rated as ‘unstable’.
Shuanghuan SCEO
The Shuanghuan SCEO was so close to the BMW X5 that BMW actually took legal action against the Chinese manufacturer. Fortunately for Shuanghuan, it was ruled by the Regional Court of Munich that the car was not allowed to be sold in Germany but could continue to be sold elsewhere.
It may look similar to the X5 but the SCEO does not compare at all in the engine department with the biggest engine option only producing 134bhp.
Landwind X7
We had to include the Landwind X7, which is possibly one of the most notorious copycat cars. It’s extreme similarity to the Range Rover Evoque received a lot of media attention worldwide.
Land Rover even tried to stop the X7 from entering the market but failed to do so. Even we think that Landwind took it a bit too far with this car but you have to admire the courage to do it!
