There’s no escaping it, electric cars are more abundant than ever. But what if you don’t want a futuristic four-wheeled spaceship? Well, the answer lies in electronic conversions that take your favourite classic and give it a EV boost!

That’s right, although it may seem a shame to rip out your car’s insides and pop in a battery pack, this process could potentially ‘future proof’ your vehicle. We’ve picked out five cult classic cars that should definitely be electrified.

Ford Mustang Mach 1

Sticking with the classic shape that has made these cars so successful, but bringing in new styling for the 1969, you can see why this Mustang would be an excellent candidate for an EV conversion. The Mach is a stylish sportsroof alternative to the GT model and there are already countless modified examples to take inspiration from.

Chevrolet Camaro 1969

The Camaro never was the fastest, but there’s no denying this muscle car is a favourite among Americans. There are plenty of engines and trim levels and with a helping hand from an all-new electric heart, this cult classic would be even more thrilling to drive!

Jaguar XJS 1975-1996

This may not have been the most beautiful or trustworthy car in its day and the Jaguar E-Type was always going to be a tough act to follow. However, this styling actually has a certain charm nowadays and we love the idea of driving around in a lovingly restored convertible XJS.

Toyota Previa 1991

Being a Toyota, you know its going to be reliable and it’s a real engineering triumph. Nobody really knows why the platform was never continued, but with a battery fitted this supercharged minivan would be unstoppable.

Saab Sonett III 1970-1974

It may have the sporty look, but that 65hp V4 engine is just crying out for an electric update. Drivers of this sports coupe are nice and low to the ground, making driving all the more fun and those pop up headlights add to the sleek styling.
