See how our award winners are getting on in Uganda
It seems like a lifetime ago when the Drive 4 Wildlife team won the Motor-Vision Awards in 2018 with their passionate wildlife conservation project pitch and the boys have been very busy.
We’re glad that Motor-Vision could have been a part of this on-going project and the good that the D4W team have achieved so far is truly phenomenal! If you’re wondering how the team are doing, you’re in the right place.
Most recently, Cameron, Redmond, Tyler and Aaron have been working with the renowned Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (A.K.A Entebbe Zoo). Entebbe Zoo is well-known for rescuing and caring for Ugandan wildlife that has suffered from the bushmeat and trafficking trade and various other trades that inflict harm on the precious wildlife.
The Paradise Wildlife Park (where Drive 4 Wildlife comes from) have kindly donated a Land Rover Defender Pickup to be used as an animal ambulance. Director Dr James Musinguzi said “it has done wonders” for their animal rescue efforts, increasing their rescue of wild animals “by threefold”.
Providing Entebbe Zoo with this very capable 4×4 animal ambulance has given them the tools they need to increase the amount of injured, trapped and abandoned animals they can rescue, now rescuing around 3 animals per week on average.
Dr Musinguzi explains that not only is it greatly important to preserve and respect the environment we live in and the animals that surround us but also especially important in Uganda as the tourism sector, a significant part of Uganda’s economy, is mainly wildlife-based.
Also, with UWEC, the D4W team have been busy tracking elephants, taking down snare traps, relocating a baboon, releasing a rehabilitated terapin, searching for endangered shoebill storks, caring for (and playing with) orphaned baby chimps and elephants and much more!
