The British Royal family are known for their love of fine cars, with an impressive and very rare collection worth over £10 million, we thought we’d take a look at just some of their favourites.
Did you know that every car the Queen has is completely unique and designed specifically for her?
One of the special, bespoke vehicles includes the likes of the Land Rover Defender, sold to Sandringham in 2002 the Defender remains her majesty’s top choice when it comes to her cars, along with the classic Land Rover Discovery.
When she isn’t taking her beloved Land Rover out for spin, the Queen’s second choice has to be the Daimler V8 Super LWB, delivered to Buckingham Palace back in 2001.
Now, as we all know, one simply cannot be a true royal if you one doesn’t have a Bentley, so it is fitting that the luxury chauffeur car preferred by the Prince and Princess of Cambridge is the Bentley Continental Flying Spur.
In 2002, the Bentley State Limousine was delivered to The Queen made strict orders to Bentley to ensure that she was the very first customer to receive their brand new Bentayga.
Wine fuelled car anyone?
That’s right, the royals are not afraid to experiment as 8 years ago Prince Charles had his Aston Martin Volante DB6 converted to run on wine, to match his biodiesel fleet of Jaguars, Audis and Range Rovers. The same car Prince William used on his wedding day in 2011.
Another of Charles’ cars is the hi-tech Jaguar XJ (diesel), the official car he and the Duchess are driven around in.
Many of the royal cars are British, however William, Kate and Harry do favour that of the German cars and choose to drive a range of Audis.
Price is certainly no obstacle when purchasing these Audis as the royal family enjoy huge discounts of up to 60%, which may explain why they have an Audi A8 Limousine that costs over £92K… Let’s not put wine in that!
Cars really have moved on a lot since the first royal car especially when looking back at the 1900 Daimler Phaeton. It’s interesting to think what the next generation of royals will be driving in the not so distant future, although the young Prince George has a while to go yet!
